Family owned, and the same standard on every call. Here is what that means on the day somebody knocks on your door.
What we do
HVAC and plumbing for the Kansas City metro

Father and son, over 50 years of combined experience in the trades
A family approach
One family, accountable for every job
Will and Austin Green run the work. Jackie Green runs the books and the back office that keeps the vans moving. That is the business, and it means somebody is always accountable for how a job went: the craft of it, and the way we treat the house we are standing in.
What we guarantee
- 90-day repair guarantee. 100% parts and labor on repairs, with no trip fees or second invoices if the fix fails within 90 days.
- New heating and cooling systems. A 2-year Dragonfly craftsmanship guarantee, plus a 10-year manufacturer parts warranty that we register on your behalf.
- The price. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. If it changes, you approve it in writing first.
- The house. We recognize that you are welcoming us into your home, and we treat it with the utmost respect: Boots off or covered, drop cloths down, and we leave the room the way we found it.
What it does not cover. Equipment that fails for reasons unrelated to our work, and the manufacturer’s own warranty terms. We will tell you which one you are looking at on the day.
What it costs
Straightforward pricing. No corporate markup.
Much of Kansas City’s heating, cooling, and plumbing market has been acquired by private equity consolidators burdened with massive corporate overhead, aggressive sales quotas, and inflated price books designed to force replacements.
Dragonfly is an independent, family-owned company. We don’t answer to outside investors, and our technicians don’t earn commissions on equipment sales. Because we don’t carry corporate bloat or push unnecessary replacements, our repairs are honest, fair, and consistently cost less than the big chains.

The Dragonfly Pricing Promise
From our customers
The expensive quote is not always the diagnosis

Checked the whole system out for us and turned out to be wires crossed. He said system in good shape. Technician from another company told us entire unit may have to be replaced. Highly recommend Dragonfly. Honest and reputable.

They did a second opinion diagnostic check for free since I had another company tell me I had a leak. The other company charged me an arm and a leg to put more Freon in my unit. Dragonfly heating cooling and plumbing sent a tech out and turns out we don’t have a leak and our unit was over charged by almost 2 lbs. Which is how much the other company said they put into the unit.

Very quick response time, great customer service, the tech fixed our issue quickly with minor repair. He didn’t push for expensive replacement even though we know we do need that at some point in the near future.

Technician Mr. Gavin Carver of Dragonfly Heating and Plumbing in the KC area was our “second opinion,” and I am so happy we requested one! He is the most professional, knowledgeable, personable, and considerate technician we have ever met. He arrived on time, took his time to diagnose our problems, and very patiently explained the situation, the solution, and the timeline of the work. Best of all, he saved us thousands of dollars compared to what the first company suggested we do!

Calvin came out minutes after my call when asking for a second opinion on our original installer’s diagnosis to replace our Lennox Signature Series air conditioner that had 2 weeks left in 10 year warranty. They were pushing a $25k identical or a $300 monthly lease, all they could say was it was completely dry of freon. They quoted repair would be over $6k without the labor, just coil and r410. Dragonfly did a real diagnostic, found the problem, and fixed it, at half the price.

We called Dragonfly for a second opinion after our regular HVAC company told us that our very old AC compressor had finally bitten the dust. They were able to schedule us immediately, working around my tight schedule. They unfortunately confirmed that the unit was toast, and took the time to show me the telltale signs. We asked for a quote on replacement of our entire heating and cooling system. They beat the other estimates we’d received by quite a bit!
Free second opinion
Bring us the quote.
A second opinion is free with a written diagnostic quote from a licensed HVAC contractor dated within the last 30 days. We diagnose the system ourselves and tell you what we find, and if the first company was right, we say so.
Without one, a diagnostic visit is $89 for a home and $149 for a commercial building, quoted before we come out.

Our evaluation tool
Should you repair it or replace it?
Answer four quick questions: no personal information required. And better yet, no one calls you afterwards. You get the same answer we would give you standing in your basement, including the one where you keep your current equipment.
Your answers
Every answer it can give
Start over
What are we looking at?
The three we get called about most.
- Furnace
- Air conditioner or heat pump
- Water heater
Question 1
Roughly how old is it?
A rough number is fine. The label on the side usually carries a date.
- Under 8 years
- 8 to 12 years
- 12 to 18 years
- Over 18 years
Question 2
What is it doing?
Pick the closest. If two apply, pick the one that started first.
- It will not start at all
- It runs, but it is not keeping up
- It is noisy, or it is leaking
- Nothing is wrong. The bills are just climbing
Question 3
Has it had a major part replaced in the last two years?
Compressor, heat exchanger, control board, blower motor.
- Yes
- No
- Not sure
Question 4
Repair
Fix it. It has years left.
At this age, one component has failed. The system around it is fine. Replacing the whole unit now means paying for years you have already bought. We would order the part, install it, and tell you what to watch for next.
Either way
This one is close.
The repair is real money and the system is old enough that you may be doing it again. There is no dishonest answer here, only a preference. We will price both in front of you, say which one we would pick in our own house, and then stop talking.
Replace
Replacing is the cheaper answer over time.
Two major repairs on a system past its design life is money you will spend again, usually within a season. We would still make the repair if you want the time, and we would tell you what it buys you before you decide.
Keep it
Nothing here needs replacing.
What you’re describing usually is not the equipment. It’s airflow, a filter, or a thermostat, and all three cost a fraction of a new system. We would come and look before anyone talks about a new system.
Second opinion
Bring the quote. We will look at the system.
We read the equipment, not the paperwork, and we tell you what we find. If the first company was right we will say so plainly. We have nothing to gain either way.
Someone has already told you to replace it?
This is guidance, not a diagnosis. Nobody can see your equipment from here, including us. It is the same reasoning our technicians use before they open anything.

Heating, Cooling & Plumbing
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a technician try to sell me a new system?
No. The people who come out are career tradespeople, and nobody earns a commission on the equipment they recommend. There are no quotas and no turnover bonuses either. You get the diagnosis first, then the options side by side, and the decision stays yours. If yours has five good years left in it, that is what you will be told, and several of the customers quoted on this page heard exactly that after another company said otherwise. It is also why our repair-or-replace tool is willing to tell you to keep what you have.
How does pricing work?
Flat, and quoted before work starts. The diagnostic visit is $89 for a home and $149 for a commercial building, and you are told that when you book rather than when somebody is standing in your hallway. After that you see the repair number in writing while everything is still switched off. If we find something we did not know about, we stop and quote that too, before touching it.
Do mini-splits still heat when it is below freezing?
Yes. The idea that they give up in the cold comes from the equipment sold in the nineties, and it is not true of what is sold now. A modern cold-climate unit goes on producing heat through a Kansas City winter, which is why a ductless mini-split suits a room over a garage, a finished attic, or an addition the ductwork never reached.
Someone else told me I need a full replacement. Can you take a look?
Yes, and it is one of the most common calls we get. Bring the written quote you were given. A second opinion on somebody else’s quote is free, provided it is a written diagnostic quote from a licensed HVAC contractor dated within the last thirty days. Checking costs you nothing. We will diagnose it ourselves and tell you what we find, and if the first company was right, we will say so.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Fully licensed and insured in Missouri and Kansas, and the insurance certificate is yours on request.
Do you charge more for evenings or weekends?
Yes, for emergencies. An after-hours or weekend emergency call carries an emergency fee, quoted before we come out so it is never a surprise on the invoice. EASY Plus members pay no after-hours or weekend premium.
What is included in an annual service plan?
Two visits a year, booked ahead of the season rather than during it, plus priority when the weather turns. Both plans include a written photo report within 24 hours of each visit. EASY Plus adds quarterly filters, the outdoor capacitor and contactor replaced on a schedule, a yearly plumbing inspection and water heater flush, and no dispatch, after-hours or rural trip fees. The annual service plans page compares them line by line.
